Trump’s protectionist policy with tariffs at the first place is considered in the article. Facts are presented on implementing tariffs in the trade dialog with EU, China, Canada and other partners. A critical estimation of such approach in trade policy is presented. A thesis is proposed that Trump protectionist policy reflects the absence of proper policy means to answer the challenges of globalization. A proper understanding of globalization is necessary as a natural progressive process of formation of the world economy as a common global economic complex. It means to look for appropriate policy at the direction of progress, not among past traditions and experience. Further development of multinational cooperation and economic policy coordination is necessary.
