Аннотация
В статье анализируются отношения США и Индии в начале XXI века, рассматривается политика Вашингтона в отношении Нью-Дели в заключительный период администрации Клинтона (1997-2001 гг.) и в годы президентства Дж. Буша-мл. (2001-2009), даётся оценка подхода двух стран к проблеме распространения демократии. Обозначены основные внешнеполитические силы США, участвовавшие в определении позиции по вопросу нарушений прав человека в Индии. Представлены ключевые тенденции политики администрации Обамы на индийском направлении. Делается вывод о противоречивом и хрупком балансе в отношениях двух стран между стремлением Вашингтона удержать Индию в рамках стратегического партнёрства и одновременного продвижения её к демократии.
