Abstract
American Research Universities serve as a best practice of successful integration of science and higher education. It is now widely used as role model in Russia. The article identifies, however, the weak points of such institutions, primarily, those, which emerge from the subordination of the educational functions of the University to the priority of fostering scientific research.
