Abstract
The article is devoted to M.A. Milstein, the first head of the Department of Military-Political Studies of the Institute for the U.S. and Canadian Studies, the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. It outlines the main stages of Milstein's life, and demonstrates the contribution he made as a result of his scientific work to strengthening international security, ensuring strategic stability, limiting and reducing means of warfare, developing confidence building measures in the Soviet-American relations, and a number of other issues related to the reduction of military tension in the world.
