The article analyzes Canada’s strategy aimed at expanding economic links with partners outside North America. It looks at specific features of Canada’s economic and trade agreement with the EU and the Trans-Pacific Partnership. Both agreements bring radical changes to the foreign investment regime and the dispute-settlement mechanisms.
