Abstract
The works by Z. Brzezinski, A. Bacevich, and J. Matlock are examined. In all these monographs a special attention was paid to the problems the U.S. foreign policy faced at the beginning of the 21st century. All three authors - Brzezinski, Bacevich and Matlock came to the conclusion that the American national security strategy should be put in conformity with real capabilities and national interests of the United States. They believe that the way out of this deadlock may be found on the road of more realistic foreign policy, the enlightened American leadership, and re-evaluation of the US foreign and military commitments.
