Abstract
The article deals with the U.S. position with regard to the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, starting from the Reagan administration’s refusal to sign it, and ending with the most recent (2012) attempt to obtain advice and consent of the Senate to its ratification. In the author’s opinion, the U.S. leadership hasn’t fully realized the necessity of the Convention for the USA, and this explains the many-year delay with its ratification.
