Over the past 10-15 years, the PRC-U.S. relations have gone through a major transformation. The previously proclaimed movement towards a “constructive strategic partnership” has been replaced by a “strategic competition” that now extends across almost all aspects of the two countries’ interaction. The author identifies the key factors that have been driving the development of Sino-American relations in the last decade, and uses the data on the quantitative assessment of China-U.S. relations from the research of Chinese colleagues from Tsinghua University to analyze the ongoing tensions between Washington and Beijing and offer her vision of the prospects for the development of their relations.
